It is a fairy tale opera in 5 acts based on the poem by Alexander Pushkin from 1820.
The premiere of "Ruslan and Ludmila" was marking the 6th Anniversary of Glinka's first opera "A Life For The Tsar", taking place on the same day and on the same stage.
