#otd , December 9th 1836, Glinka's opera "A Life For The Tsar" was premiered in St.Petersburg.
The original text of the opera was rewritten in Soviet times to avoid mentioning of Tsars and God. So check carefully when selecting the score and listening to recordings to make sure you use the original version!
